Building a
Safer Future

Education. Harm Reduction. Community.
The overdose crisis cannot be solved by any single intervention. Reducing preventable overdose deaths requires accurate information, compassionate public health strategies, responsible scientific research, and communities committed to replacing stigma with understanding.
Ibogaine Works brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, advocates, policymakers, and people with lived experience to improve public education, promote harm reduction, and support evidence-informed approaches to substance use and recovery.
Our work ranges from community education and professional outreach to research advocacy and public policy initiatives. While we support responsible scientific investigation into emerging therapies, including ibogaine, our broader mission is to reduce preventable overdose deaths and help people make safer, more informed decisions.
Our Mission
To reduce preventable overdose deaths through public education, harm reduction, research advocacy, and community action—and to advance safer, evidence-informed approaches to substance use and recovery.
Our Focus
Public Education
Making complex information about substance use, overdose prevention, ibogaine, and emerging therapies easier to understand and more accessible to the people who need it.
Harm Reduction
Promoting practical, nonjudgmental approaches that reduce risk, improve safety, and recognize the realities people face when making decisions about substance use and treatment.
Research Advocacy
Supporting rigorous scientific investigation and helping build the evidence policymakers and healthcare professionals need to evaluate promising new approaches responsibly.
Professional Education
Working to improve awareness and understanding among healthcare, mental health, social service, and harm reduction professionals.
Community Partnerships
Bringing together people with lived experience, families, researchers, advocates, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to develop more informed and effective responses to the overdose crisis.

Our Story
Ibogaine Works was founded in response to a simple reality: too many people continue to die from preventable overdoses, and addressing the crisis requires both urgency and new thinking.

Inspired by the way activists confronted the AIDS crisis—combining public action, education, community organizing, and pressure for better research and policy—we believe the overdose crisis demands the same determination. Our public initiatives seek to make the human cost of the crisis visible, while our advocacy works to give researchers and policymakers the information they need to pursue better solutions.
Ibogaine is an important part of that work, but so is safety. People are already seeking ibogaine treatment, sometimes outside regulated medical settings and without adequate medical screening or supervision. Ibogaine Works does not encourage self-treatment. We advocate for rigorous research, appropriate medical oversight, and evidence-based regulatory frameworks that can help determine how ibogaine may be used safely and effectively in the treatment of substance use disorders.
We also believe treatment is only one part of recovery. A person can complete treatment and return to the same circumstances, relationships, and challenges they faced before it. Without continuing support, relapse remains possible. Our long-term vision therefore recognizes aftercare, counseling, and support for individuals and their families as essential components of successful recovery.
Our goal is not simply greater access to ibogaine. It is to help create the evidence, safeguards, support systems, and public understanding necessary to give people the best possible chance to recover—and to give policymakers the tools they need to champion approaches that are safe, responsible, and grounded in evidence.
